It is built for regular creators, hobbyists, or school teams who want to make videos but do not have access to massive, expensive computers. Because it is open-source, anyone can download it to their own computer and run it for free.

What it does well

• Runs on home computers: It only needs 8.19 GB of VRAM (video memory on your graphics card), meaning it works on almost all modern consumer GPUs. For context, it can generate a 5-second 480P video on a high-end RTX 4090 graphics card in about 4 minutes.
• Writes text in videos: It is the first video model that can accurately generate both Chinese and English text right inside the video. If you ask for a sign that says "Open," it actually spells it correctly.
• Versatile: While this specific release focuses on text-to-video, the overall system is built to handle image-to-video, video editing, text-to-image, and even adding sound to videos.

How it compares

• Against closed-source rivals: The creators claim its performance is actually comparable to some closed-source models (private models you usually have to pay to use online).
• Against its bigger sibling: Alibaba also released a 14B (14 billion parameter) version of this model. The 1.3B version is the smaller, lighter sibling. It trades a little bit of raw power for the ability to run easily on normal home computers.
