OpenHands v1.9.0 is all about making the software better for teams, big organizations, and connecting to outside tools. If you use OpenHands at school or in a company setting, this update makes it much easier to invite classmates or coworkers, manage who has access to what, and connect your AI agents to tools like Jira, Slack, and GitHub. It also gives the AI a boost in speed and brains, letting it read code more accurately and do multiple things at once.

What's new

• Smoother team invites: You can now copy and paste invite links directly, skipping the annoying email confirmation step. If you sign in with an email that already has a pending invite, it accepts you automatically.
• Better organization controls: The first person to sign in becomes the default owner of the organization. Admins can also hide personal workspaces if they want everyone to share a team space instead.
• More AI model choices: You can now pick different AI models (the "brains" behind the agent) from a dropdown menu. Enterprise users can also bring their own API keys (BYOK) to use their own paid accounts.
• Connect outside tools: You can now let your AI agents see attachments from Slack chats, and there are better ways to link OpenHands with Jira (a bug and task tracker) and Azure DevOps.
• Smarter code reading: The AI now uses "semantic file chunking." This means it breaks down code files using a special understanding of the code's structure, helping it read and analyze your work better.
• Parallel tool use: Agents can now use multiple tools at the exact same time instead of waiting in line, which speeds up their work.
• Sub-agent visualizer: When the main AI delegates tasks to smaller "sub-agents," you can now see exactly what those sub-agents are doing right in the chat window.
• API key time limits: You can now set start and expiration dates for API keys, so they only work during a specific time window.
• Automations menu: A new menu item makes it easier for everyone to set up automated tasks.
• Full Git history setting: You can now choose to let the AI see your entire project history (all past changes) instead of just the current files, which helps it understand how your project evolved.

• Faster GitHub tasks: When OpenHands looks at GitHub to suggest tasks for you, it now asks for data in parallel (all at once instead of one by one), making it much faster.
• Better admin dashboards: Organization admins now have a dedicated dashboard to see and manage all the conversations happening in their group.
• Clearer error messages: If you use a custom setup and the software versions don't match, the system now gives you a clear error message instead of just failing quietly.
• Safer workspace deletion: Before a workspace gets deleted, the system now saves a final archived copy, so you don't lose everything if something goes wrong.

• Security patch: Fixed a security flaw (XSS, or cross-site scripting) in a web design tool by updating it to the latest, safest version.
• Settings bug: Fixed an issue where saving basic settings would accidentally delete the custom web address (base URL) you were using for your AI model.
• Invite typing bug: Fixed a glitch where you had to press the Spacebar after typing an email address to invite someone; it now accepts the email right away.
