This release is all about making your day-to-day coding chats smoother and easier to manage. It matters a lot to developers who use Kilo Code inside editors like VS Code or JetBrains, especially if you juggle multiple conversations, need to search through past chats, or want tighter control over what the AI is allowed to do on your computer.

What's new

  • Search inside your chats: You can now click a search icon in your chat header to find specific words in your current conversation. It supports cool tricks like matching exact capitalization, whole words only, or "regular expressions" (a powerful way to search using patterns), and lets you jump through the results.
  • Multiple chats for the same project: You can now open several chat tabs at once for the exact same repository, making it easier to work on different tasks at the same time.
  • Sandbox network rules: A "sandbox" is a safe, restricted area that limits what an AI tool can do. You can now configure specific network destinations (websites or servers) that the sandboxed tools are allowed to reach, even when network access is turned off for everything else.
  • Browse for files to mention: When you use the "@" symbol to mention a file in your chat prompt, there is a new "Browse files..." option. This opens your computer's normal file picker, letting you point the AI at files that live outside your current project folder. It won't automatically read them; it just asks for them when needed, respecting your security permissions.

Improvements

  • Faster settings saves: Saving your settings in VS Code is now faster because the app handles background tasks and cleans up temporary workspaces at the same time.
  • Better undo/redo in JetBrains: If you use the JetBrains editor, you now have rollback (undo) and redo controls for your chat sessions, and the app makes it much clearer when you can redo something you just reverted.
  • Clearer permissions: The app now shows you exactly what the default permissions are and makes it easier to understand when you are approving the AI to look at folders outside your workspace.
  • Smarter sandbox menus: The controls for the sandbox only show up after you actually turn the sandbox on in your settings, keeping the screen uncluttered.
  • Better error help: If Google Gemini rejects your login credentials (API keys), the app now gives you helpful tips on how to fix it.

Fixes

  • Sidebar focus: When you close an active chat tab, the text box in the sidebar now correctly pops into focus so you can immediately start typing again.
  • Diff previews: "Diffs" show what changes the AI made to your code. These expanded previews now load consistently when you open a code review.
  • Hidden broken model: The app now hides the "gpt-5.5-pro" AI model when you log in using ChatGPT, because that specific combination was causing a 400 error (a bad request) and breaking things.
  • No more orphaned processes: If your editor closes unexpectedly, the app now automatically shuts down the background "kilo serve" process, preventing hidden apps from running forever on your computer.
  • Windows drive-letter fix: On Windows computers, local background sessions (run by the "Agent Manager") now start correctly even if your project folder uses a different capital letter for the drive (like "C:" instead of "c:").
