What's new

• Fewer interruptions: When you start a new session in the interactive screen (the TUI, or text user interface), it now starts in "auto mode." This means the AI will just do its thing without asking you to approve every single step.
• Photo feedback: You can now attach images, like screenshots, when you use the /feedback command to report issues or share thoughts.
• Easier menu navigation: The / menu (the list of shortcuts that pops up when you type a slash) is now organized by what you used recently. It also groups advanced "skills" separately from basic "commands" so they're easier to find.
• Control AI effort and limits: You can now use /workflow to set exactly how many "child agents" (smaller helper AIs) can run and how much thinking effort they put into a task.
• Better dashboard controls: In the Dashboard view, you can press Shift+Tab to start new AI agents in Auto mode.
• External prompt editing: The /edit-prompt command now opens your own text editor from the full screen, making it much easier to type out long, complicated instructions.
• Smarter follow-ups: If you press the Up arrow on an empty screen, it grabs the next queued follow-up question you had ready, rather than just looking at your history.
• Instant screen switching: You can switch between minimal and fullscreen modes instantly without restarting the app or losing the AI's current train of thought.
• Faster project downloads: grok clone now downloads only the newest part of a project branch by default instead of the entire history, saving time. It can also reuse a project folder you already have on your computer instead of re-downloading it from the internet.
• More plugin options: AI agents provided by your plugins now show up in the /agents menu where you can easily turn them on or off.

Improvements

• Faster startup with background tools: MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers—background tools the AI uses to connect to outside apps—no longer slow down your whole session when you start up, even if you have a lot of them installed.
• Traffic tracking: Those background MCP servers now receive a special tag (a User-Agent header) so the companies providing them know the traffic is coming from Grok.
• Built-in workflows: Your saved workflows now show up right in the AI's instructions, so it knows it can launch them by name.
• Status line: The customizable status bar at the bottom of the screen now shows up in minimal mode, not just fullscreen.
• Shortcut alias: Typing /plugin now works just as well as typing /plugins.

Fixes

• Tougher helper AIs: Subagents (the smaller helper AIs) no longer crash and give up right away if they hit a temporary speed limit (rate limit) from the server; they now pause and try again.
• Better permission rules: If you set strict rules for what the Bash (command line) tool is allowed to do, it now correctly lets the AI write files without bugging you for extra permission.
• Fixed formatting: Rules that included Markdown headings now display correctly instead of looking messed up.
• Consistent AI effort: Using /new or /clear to start a fresh chat no longer resets the AI's "thinking effort" back to default; it remembers what you chose last time.
• Aligned menus: Dropdown menus (like search and history) now perfectly line up with the text box where you type.
• Accurate history: Your history log now accurately shows every command and memory note in the exact order you typed them.
• Cleaner design: Removed a weird vertical line that used to show up next to collapsed tool actions, and fixed the hint text so it lines up perfectly with your typing.
• Esc key fixed: Pressing Esc while peeking at a conversation from the dashboard now correctly closes the pop-up windows instead of trapping you.
• Copy preserves formatting: The /copy command now keeps your Markdown formatting (like bold text and code blocks) intact.
• No more cancelled commands: If you send a new message while a shell command is still running, the AI pushes that command to the background instead of cancelling it.
• Fixed web links: grok mcp add now correctly recognizes plain web links as web servers instead of confusing them with local computer commands.
• Plan mode fixed: Plan mode (used for planning out tasks) no longer accidentally blocks helper AIs from doing file edits.
• No more merging tools: MCP servers that share a web address but have different names are now kept as separate items instead of being glitched into one.
• Restricted permissions fixed: Subagents and workflow-spawned AIs no longer get access to tools that are only supposed to be used by the main session.
• Safer memory: The AI now presents its memory results as "historical context" and reminds you to check them against live, up-to-date sources before relying on them.
• Default mode restored: Interactive sessions correctly start in "ask mode" by default again, instead of auto mode.
• No cut-off replies: Minimal mode no longer accidentally cuts off helper AI responses after the very first word.
