This update is all about making Grok faster to open and less frustrating to use. It matters most to developers and power users who rely on the command line to manage AI tasks, because it fixes a ton of annoying glitches and makes the software feel much more responsive.

What's new

  • Easier server controls: You can now turn MCP servers (external tools the AI can talk to) on or off right from your command line using simple commands like grok mcp enable <name>.
  • Quick plan copying: When the AI shows you a plan, you can just press the y key to instantly copy the whole thing to your clipboard to paste wherever you want.
  • New subscription tier: The software now recognizes a new "SuperGrok Plus" paid subscription level and unlocks the right features for it.
  • Auto-recovery: The AI will now automatically stop itself if it gets stuck repeating the same thing over and over.

Improvements

  • Faster startup: The app now shows its interface instantly while it loads everything else in the background, so you aren't stuck staring at a blank screen.
  • Better memory usage: Resuming or splitting large chat sessions now uses way less computer memory and prevents the app from lagging or crashing.
  • Smoother on shared computers: The background helper program now limits how many tasks it runs at once, which stops it from hogging all the power on computers with lots of processors.

Fixes

  • Lost terminal text: Fixed an issue where the text you typed or the AI generated would get lost or duplicated if the internet connection dropped.
  • Bad config files: If your settings file has a broken server entry, Grok will still start up instead of crashing. It will just tell you what's wrong when you run an inspection.
  • Background tasks: Fixed glitches where background task trackers would get stuck on the screen after a long command finished, and changed the display to show how much time has passed instead of a confusing clock timestamp.
  • Session lists: Fixed a bug where the app would accidentally delete your real chat history if the cloud server mistakenly reported that a chat had zero messages.
  • Looping tasks: The /loop feature now remembers your "stop" conditions, so recurring tasks will actually stop themselves when they are supposed to, instead of running forever.
  • Less spam: Cut down on annoying, fake warning messages, including ones that told free-tier users they were blocked by a paywall.
  • Fixed Conda and shell scripts: Fixed a glitch that stopped tools like Conda (used for managing Python packages) from working correctly inside Grok.
  • Cleaner shutdowns: If the Grok app crashes or closes unexpectedly, it now properly cleans up hidden background tasks instead of leaving them running.
  • Better visuals: Fixed chopped-off text in minimal mode, made the "pasted text" bubbles look right, and improved the colors so it's easier to tell the AI's thoughts apart from its answers.
  • Login fixes: Fixed a bug where logging in would fail if multiple Grok windows tried to use the same login file at the same time.
  • Keyboard fixes: Fixed an issue on older Alacritty terminals where pressing the Enter key (and others) would accidentally register twice.
