What's new

• Turn off media tools: You can now disable image and video generation (and their quick-slash commands) if you don't need them, using the app's settings file or system environment variables.
• Better account info: The /session-info command now tells you exactly how you're logged in (either via OAuth, which is a secure login standard, or an API key) and where to go to manage your account.
• Run fixes inside the app: You can now run grok doctor fix commands directly inside the text user interface (TUI—the app's visual screen) instead of having to open a separate command-line terminal to do it.

Improvements

• Lighter voice typing: If you're on a Mac, voice dictation now uses less of your computer's memory. It does this by running the audio capture in a temporary background helper process, which keeps the main app running smoothly.

Fixes

• Longer command time: When you run system commands using !cmd, the app used to cut you off too quickly. It now waits up to an hour before timing out.
• Better installs: The npm package (a way to install the app using JavaScript) now correctly puts the core program file in the right folder, matching how the Rust command-line version does it.
• Helpful warnings: If something goes wrong when starting up, the app now points you to the /doctor tool to help figure out and fix the problem.
• Fixed dashboard clicks: In wide-screen mode, clicking or hovering over items on the dashboard no longer misses if your mouse lands in the tiny gap between them.
• Fixed line breaks: Pressing Shift+Enter or Alt+Enter now correctly adds a new line when you're typing out a prompt you've saved for later.
• Saved prompt edits fixed: If you edit a saved prompt while the app is in "combine mode" (which links prompts together), your changes will no longer randomly disappear.
• Fixed rewinding after compacting: "Compacting" is when the app shrinks a long chat's history to save space. If you "forked" (copied) a chat after doing this, trying to rewind to an earlier point used to crash. That's fixed now.
• Fixed permission pop-ups: If the app asks you for permission to do something while you're scrolling back to read older messages, your keyboard focus now jumps straight to the pop-up so you can answer it.
• Easier cancellation: Pressing the Escape key once now stops the AI's current task. (The only exception is if you're in fullscreen "vim" mode, which is a special text-scrolling view).
• Stopped endless loops: If the AI gets stuck repeating the exact same tool action over and over, it will now automatically stop itself.
• Fixed settings save: The app previously got confused by two different spellings of a setting that turns off "workspace teleport." Both spellings now save and load correctly.
• Stopped session leaks: If you have multiple chats running at once, background tasks (subagents) will no longer accidentally pop up their "I'm finished!" messages in the wrong chat.
• Better permission failures: When the app's auto-permission system (which tries to guess if an action is safe) fails or times out, it will now just ask you for permission normally, instead of silently blocking the action.
• Fixed slow tool timeouts: Outside tools you connect to the app (like Notion, known as Managed MCP tools) used to time out and fail if they took too long. They now get the time they need to finish slow updates.
