What changed in Grok Build CLI v0.2.106, released 2026-07-18 โ€” explained in plain English.

TLDR
  • You can now stop weird clipboard garbage from showing up in older terminals.
  • Scheduled tasks got an upgrade, letting you edit them instead of starting from scratch.
  • Your copied text is now super safe with automatic backup files.
  • Code colors are finally visible if you use a light-colored terminal theme.

This update is mostly about making Grok play nicer with your computer setup, whether you're using an older terminal app or a bright screen theme. It matters most to power users who automate tasks or spend a lot of time copying and pasting code in their terminal.

What's new

  • A toggle for clipboard garbage: Terminals use a hidden code called OSC52 to copy text to your clipboard. If your terminal doesn't understand this code, it just prints weird garbage text on your screen. You can now use a setting (an "environment variable" called GROK_CLIPBOARD_NO_OSC52) to turn this off and keep your screen clean.
  • Better scheduled tasks: You can now update a scheduled task "in place," meaning you can just edit it instead of deleting the whole thing and making a new one. Also, "one-time tasks" have been removed and replaced with "background commands," which is a simpler and better way to run things behind the scenes.

Fixes

  • Safer copying: Sometimes the terminal clipboard fails, meaning whatever you tried to copy gets lost. Now, whenever you copy something, Grok automatically writes a backup file. If the clipboard fails, you can still recover your text from that file.
  • Fixed invisible code colors: When using a stripped-down view called --minimal mode, the colors that highlight code text were completely invisible on light-colored terminal backgrounds. This is now fixed, so you can actually read your code.

Breaking changes

  • One-time tasks are gone: Because they were replaced by background commands, any existing one-time tasks you had set up will no longer work. You will need to set them up again as background commands.
