This update is all about making GitHub Copilot's command-line interface (CLI) feel faster, safer, and more customizable. If you use Copilot directly in your terminal, this release makes it much easier to connect external tools, keep your computer safe with smarter security boundaries (sandboxes), and work with massive code projects without the tool slowing down or crashing.

What's new

• Plugin Dashboard: A new /plugins menu lets you view and manage your installed add-ons in one place. You can also reload them instantly without having to restart your entire session.
• MCP Server Manager: Added /mcp list to view Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers—which are tools that let Copilot talk to other apps. You can now open this manager and toggle servers on or off even while Copilot is actively working.
• Smart Auto-Approval: A new mode uses an AI "judge" to automatically approve safe requests, saving you from constantly clicking "allow."
• Stay in Autopilot: A new setting (stayInAutopilot) keeps the CLI in autopilot mode even after it finishes a task, so you don't have to turn it back on.

Improvements

• Smarter Security (Sandboxing): The CLI now uses clearer labels like "(sandbox policy)" instead of "(sandboxed)" to show when it is restricting what Copilot can access on your computer. You can also easily approve one-time exceptions for file edits or web searches.
• Speed Boosts: Switching between large coding sessions is much faster, and viewing file differences (/diff) on massive files won't lag your terminal anymore.
• Better Scrolling: You can now hold the Alt key (Option on Mac) to scroll through text line-by-line. Also, long prompts won't collapse awkwardly when you scroll past them.
• Smarter Search Suggestions: When adding file paths to your sandbox, the CLI now suggests files and folders automatically.

Fixes

• No More Freezing: Fixed a bug where the setup command (copilot init) would freeze up in certain automated terminal setups.
• UI Cleanup: Fixed issues where menus (like the AI model picker) would get cut off at the bottom of your terminal screen.
• Memory Fixes for Huge Projects: Prevented the code-searching tool from running out of memory and crashing on massive codebases.
• Input Errors: The CLI will now properly reject empty inputs (like blank session names or IDs) instead of ignoring them or acting weirdly.
• Clipboard Fixes: Copying text now works more reliably on Linux (Wayland) and macOS.

Breaking changes

• The automatic approval feature (/allow-all auto) now requires you to explicitly turn on experimental mode (using /experimental on or the --experimental flag) to work.
