Black Forest Labs just released a tool that lets you take any picture and make its canvas bigger. It's perfect for high schoolers, designers, or anyone who took a great photo but needs more space around the edges to fit a specific screen size or layout.

What it does well

It is incredibly smart at continuing a scene naturally. If you have a photo of a sunset, it will extend the sky and clouds perfectly. It copies the lighting, textures, depth, and overall feel of your original picture so the new edges don't look fake or out of place. You also get exact control over the canvas size and exactly where your original image sits inside the new, larger frame.

What it costs and what it can handle

You can generate images up to 4 megapixels (often written as 4MP). That is a high enough resolution to use for things like website banners, social media posts, or changing a square picture into a wide rectangle without cropping out the good stuff.

Worth knowing

The biggest catch is that you cannot use text prompts to guide the expansion. The tool figures out what to draw entirely by looking at your original picture, so you can't tell it to "add a dog" to the extended background.
