Devin CLI v2026.8.18 Changelog

This update gives developers more control over how Devin works behind the scenes, from picking the brains of its helper bots to keeping automated messages out of their project history. It also speeds up startup times and fixes a few annoying bugs that were messing with the user experience.

What's new

• Custom helper models: Devin uses "subagents" (smaller AI helpers that take on specific background tasks). You can now choose exactly which AI model these helpers use by default, so you can balance speed and smarts however you want.
• Control over commit messages: There is a new setting in the Devin Local configuration file called attribution. If you turn it off, Devin will stop adding its name to your commit messages (the saved notes that explain what code you changed).

Improvements

• Faster tool loading: Devin uses something called an MCP registry (a list of external tools it can use). The app now pre-loads the "cache" (saved data) for this list while it's starting up. Because of this, those external tools are ready to go much sooner.

Fixes

• Windows bash fix: On Windows computers, typing bash was accidentally opening a WSL launcher stub (a shortcut for a Linux system running inside Windows) instead of the actual Git Bash tool. It now correctly opens Git Bash.
• Cleaner session titles: When you start a new chat, Devin automatically makes a title for it. It used to include "injected context" (hidden background instructions you gave Devin) in the title, which made things look messy. Now it only uses your actual conversation.
• Fixed text wrapping: When you typed a reply to a question in the command line, the text used to wrap in a weird way if you used full-width characters (like Japanese or Chinese text). That visual glitch is now fixed.
