This update is all about making Devin CLI faster, smarter, and easier to use. It matters most if you use Devin in the terminal or in code editors like VS Code or Windsurf, giving you better control over cloud sessions, smoother handling of long conversations, and fixing a bunch of frustrating glitches with images and typing.

What's new

• New AI models: You can now use Gemini 3.5 Flash. There's also a new /fast command to quickly switch to the SWE-1.6 Fast model, which shows you a price comparison so you know what it costs.
• Cloud session controls: You can use /cloud-sessions to see a list of your recent cloud sessions and /cloud-attach to jump into one. When you attach, you get the full visual experience, seeing the agent's plans, messages, and file edits.
• Smarter editor context: If you use supported editors like Windsurf, Devin can now see which file you have open, where your cursor is, and what other tabs you have open. This helps it understand what you're working on.
• Easier permissions for tools: When Devin asks to use a tool from an outside server (like Figma), you can now approve all tools from that server at once, either just for today or forever, so you don't have to keep clicking "allow."
• Better terminal navigation: In certain modern terminals (like VS Code, iTerm2, or Windows Terminal), you can now use keyboard shortcuts to jump between your prompts, see markers on the scrollbar, and collapse long sections of the agent's output to save space.
• Export chats: You can use a new --export flag to save your conversation history in a special format called ATIF.
• Deeper subagents: You can now let custom "subagent" profiles (smaller helper bots) spawn their own nested helper bots by changing a setting called max-nesting.
• Better undo previews: Before you undo an action (a "revert"), Devin now shows you exactly how many lines will be added or removed and gives you a button to view the full differences.
• Turn off tips: If you're tired of the "Did you know" hints, you can turn them off in the settings.

Improvements

• Fewer pauses in long chats: Devin now summarizes your conversation in the background before it gets too long. This means the AI spends less time freezing while it tries to remember everything.
• Smarter background tasks: If a command runs in the background after a timeout, Devin now tells you exactly how long it waited before moving on.
• Web search for Explore: The built-in "Explore" helper bot can now search the web to research topics outside of your code, though it still can't edit files.
• Faster startup: Opening a shell (your command line) with Devin integrated is now noticeably faster.
• Windows uses PowerShell: On Windows, Devin now defaults to using PowerShell instead of Git Bash, meaning you no longer need to install Git for Windows just to run Devin.
• Clearer warnings: When undoing actions, Devin now gives clear warnings if something can't be undone, instead of just showing a blank space. Also, safe commands like ls or cat no longer trigger scary "irreversible action" warnings.
• Better exports and connections: Exported chats now include more detailed timing data. Also, connecting to outside servers (like Figma) is smoother and automatically tries the newest connection method before falling back to older ones.

Fixes

• Fixed typing in multiple-choice: When typing your own answer in a multiple-choice "Other" field, it no longer drops the letter 'e', spaces, or treats numbers and 'j'/'k' as keyboard shortcuts.
• Fixed image errors: Devin now correctly converts older image types (like BMP or TIFF) to PNG before sending them. It also drops images that are too large (over 5 MB) instead of trying to send them and crashing. In Windsurf, it now correctly warns you if the AI model you picked doesn't support images.
• No more ghost files: "Sandbox mode" no longer leaves empty hidden files (like .bashrc or .gitconfig) lying around in your project folder after running commands.
• Plan mode fixed: You can now use read-only "Plan mode" even if your organization requires sandbox mode. Previously, it blocked you by mistake.
• Better undoing: Undoing a step no longer falsely claims a file was "modified externally" if you rejected the AI's edit in your editor. It also no longer crashes when you try to undo a prompt that you stopped early.
• Fixed handoffs: The /handoff command (which passes your work to the cloud) now correctly grabs all untracked files in your whole project, not just the ones in your current folder.
• Fixed silent cutoffs: If the AI hits its maximum output limit and stops talking halfway through, it now warns you instead of pretending the half-finished answer is complete.
• Saved permissions in Windsurf: Clicking "Always Allow" in Windsurf now actually saves that permission forever, instead of forgetting it the next time you open the app.
• Hooks and skills fixed: Automated scripts (hooks) that are supposed to block a prompt now work correctly. The skill finder now correctly finds skills hidden in shortcut folders (symlinks).

Breaking changes

• Homebrew updates: If you installed Devin using Homebrew, the built-in /update command will no longer update the app itself. You will need to run brew upgrade devin from your terminal instead.
