Command A Reasoning, Explained Simply

Cohere just released a new AI model called Command A Reasoning. It is designed for businesses and developers who need an AI that doesn't just chat, but can actively solve tricky problems and use outside software tools to get things done.

What it does well

This model shines at "agentic" tasks—meaning it can proactively solve problems on its own, like using web search or calculators to finish complex jobs. It is the best in Cohere's whole Command family at using these outside tools. It also handles 23 languages, so it can reason and solve problems in whatever language a business operates in.

What it costs and what it can handle

The model has a "context length" of 256K tokens and a "maximum output" of 32K tokens. In plain English, this means it can read and remember a massive amount of information at once—roughly equivalent to a 500-page book—and can generate very long, detailed responses in a single go.

Worth knowing

You can turn its "thinking" capabilities on or off, and you can set a specific "thinking budget." This lets you decide how much time and processing power the AI should spend reasoning through a problem before it gives you a final answer. It is accessed through a standard Chat API (the software bridge developers use to talk to the AI), so developers will need to use that interface to build it into their apps.
