What's new

• Direct web search in Code Mode: Codex can now search the web directly to pull in plain-text search results, even when it is running complex JavaScript tools in the background.
• Better compatibility with external tools: Codex is now better at reading "schemas" (the blueprints that tell software how data should be structured). This makes it much easier to connect Codex with advanced external tools, specifically those using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
• Smarter troubleshooting with codex doctor: The diagnostic tool (codex doctor) now looks at your text editor and page-viewing settings to help troubleshoot setup issues. To protect your privacy, it automatically hides sensitive personal data from the final report.
• A faster plugin marketplace: When you search for plugins (add-ons that give Codex extra features), the list now loads instantly from a saved local copy (cache) while updating in the background. You can also see exactly where each plugin is hosted.

• Better crash reports: If the app crashes, it now generates lightweight "symbol" files. These files help developers pinpoint the exact line of code that failed without slowing down the app's overall performance.
• Under-the-hood engine update: The built-in JavaScript engine (V8) has been updated to a newer, more secure version.

• Command-line prompt mix-ups: Fixed a bug where trying to resume or copy (fork) a coding session would cause Codex to mistake your typed instructions for a session ID number.
• Stuck loading spinners: Fixed a visual glitch in the Terminal User Interface (TUI) where loading spinners would get stuck and warning messages from background tasks would clutter the screen.
• Accurate image editing: Codex now uses the exact file path of an image when making edits, rather than guessing which image you meant from your chat history.
• Broken links in the terminal: Web links containing the ~ (tilde) symbol are now fully clickable in the terminal instead of getting cut off halfway through.
• Settings lost on reset: Clearing or resetting your chat thread (using commands like /new or /clear) will no longer accidentally turn off your cloud settings or special feature flags.
• More secure sandboxing: The "sandbox" (a safe, isolated environment used to test code) is now more reliable. It remembers when you have given it permission to run advanced tasks and strictly follows internet security rules.
