Codex App August 7, 2026 Changelog

This update is all about making the app more reliable, especially if you use it for complex tasks or while on the go. If you've ever been frustrated by the app freezing, dropping your text, or glitching when your Wi-Fi acts up, this update fixes a lot of those headaches.

Improvements

• Better reconnecting: If your internet drops while the app is working on a task, it now shows a progress bar instead of leaving you guessing. You can also keep using your other chats while it tries to reconnect.
• Smoother typing: Editing really long messages is a lot faster and less laggy now.
• Smarter voice settings: When you talk to the app out loud, it now respects your "Background Conversations" setting (meaning it will behave the way you set it up to when you switch to other apps or lock your screen).
• Cleaner history: When the app asks for your permission to do something (like run a tool) and then reconnects, it recovers much better. The chat history also shows these approvals in a much cleaner, easier-to-read way.

Fixes

• Saved work: Fixed a huge bug where starting a new task could wipe out your first message and attached files, leaving an empty chat that you couldn't even open again.
• Goal follow-ups: Fixed an issue with /goal commands (special prompts used to complete specific tasks). If you asked a follow-up question right after finishing a goal, it was broken, but it works now.
• Glitchy screens: Squashed bugs that caused the task list to freeze, task titles to disappear, "thinking" summaries to annoyingly flash on the screen, and the app to crash while loading chat histories.
