Codex App July 30, 2026 Changelog

This update is all about making your workflow smoother, whether you're researching on the web, managing big coding projects, or creating images. It matters most to power users who use the desktop app to juggle multiple tasks, codebases, and conversations at once, giving them faster ways to find information and fix things without jumping between different windows.

What's new

• Smarter address bar: In the app's built-in browser, you can now type in the address bar to find old pages from your history or search Google if there's no match.
• History search: You can now let ChatGPT search your past browsing history to find a webpage you visited before, which is super helpful when you need context for a project. You can manage this history in your Settings.
• Better Chrome extension: If you use the Chrome extension, you can now bring text you highlighted on a webpage directly into your chat. You can also mention open browser tabs, right-click any webpage to ask ChatGPT about it, or ask questions about YouTube videos to get answers in seconds.
• Multi-folder code reviews: If you have a coding project that uses multiple folders (repositories), you can now see all the changed lines across all of them in one place. Just click Review to inspect the "diffs" (the exact parts of the code that were added or removed) without having to switch back and forth between different windows.
• Image editing workspace: When ChatGPT creates an image, you can now open it in a larger viewer. You can switch between a focused view or a wider canvas view, leave comments on the images, pick your favorites, and ask for specific edits—all without leaving your chat.
• Activity view: There's a new bell icon in the sidebar that opens an "Activity view." It shows you which recent chats you were involved in that might need a reply. You can also open it by pressing Cmd/Ctrl+Opt+U.

Improvements

• The browser settings menu now only shows web browsers that are actually supported by the app, making it less confusing.
• If you use Windows, the app is now much more reliable to install, especially if your computer has really long folder paths for your files.

Fixes

• Fixed an issue where installing the app on Windows could fail if the file paths were too long.
• Squashed various general bugs to make the app run faster and smoother.
