This release is all about making it easier to manage your work and talk to ChatGPT. It is especially useful if you use the desktop app to juggle multiple coding files or projects at the same time, because you can now use your voice to direct the AI and group several folders together under one project.

What's new

  • ChatGPT Voice: Powered by something called GPT-Live, you can now talk out loud to ChatGPT to get work done. You can start a chat or task using your voice, and then ask the AI to start, check, or guide work in other chat threads.
  • Screen context (macOS only): If you are on a Mac, you can turn on "Screen context" to share an "appshot" (a snapshot of whatever app window you are currently looking at) so ChatGPT knows exactly what you are seeing.
  • Multi-folder projects: You used to be limited to one folder per local project. Now, you can add several related folders to a single project. You just go to a project's menu, select Edit project, and add your folders.
  • Primary and secondary folders: When you add multiple folders, you pick a "primary" folder. New chats, Git operations (saving and tracking code changes), and automatic settings files will use this primary folder. The extra "secondary" folders are still there for the AI to search, read, and edit files in.

Improvements

  • Voice mode is now available on more platforms. If you have a Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, or Enterprise plan, you can use voice in the desktop app. If you use an iPhone, you can also use it through a feature called "Remote on iOS" to connect to your setup.
