Codex App July 9, 2026 Changelog

Codex is now part of the ChatGPT desktop app. If you already use Codex, you can update normally and keep all your current projects and settings. This update matters to anyone who writes code or manages projects, because it brings your coding tools, AI assistant, and GitHub reviews together into one single window so you don't have to switch between different apps.

What's new

• In-app editing: You can now edit text and code directly inside the app. You can highlight specific parts, leave notes on them, and ask the AI to rewrite just the section you selected.
• GitHub pull request reviews: You can now read and review GitHub pull requests in the app's sidebar. A "pull request" is a way to suggest changes to a codebase, and a "diff" shows what was added or removed. You can see the changes and reviewer comments side-by-side without leaving the app.
• Multi-repository projects: You can now work across multiple code repositories (folders where a project's code is stored) within a single project workspace.
• Custom domains for Sites: If you publish a website using Codex's "Sites" feature, you can now connect your own custom web address to it.

Improvements

• Faster Computer Use: "Computer Use" is a feature that lets the AI control your mouse and keyboard to do tasks on your screen. It is now faster when using the GPT-5.6 model.
• Easier activity tracking: It is now simpler to follow what the AI is doing while it works on your tasks, including what smaller background "subagents" (helper AIs) are up to.
• Simpler plugin management: Managing plugins (extra tools you add to the app) is now easier because they moved into the main Settings menu.
• Smoother permissions: The app handles permissions better when you ask it to resume an old task or send a follow-up message.
• Better setup: Setting up the app is smoother on both Mac and Windows. This includes easier installation on macOS, better workflows that use Git (a system for tracking code changes), and improved Computer Use on Windows.
• Better mobile and video: It is now more reliable to connect the app to your phone. Also, video rendering (how videos display) is improved for SSH projects (projects running on a remote computer over a secure connection).

Fixes

• Task resumption and onboarding: Fixed a bug where the app would get stuck in a loop if something went wrong during setup, and fixed an issue where you couldn't resume tasks on local projects.
• Scrolling and diagrams: Fixed a glitch where scrolling didn't work properly when reviewing pull requests. Also fixed the labels on Mermaid diagrams (a way to create flowcharts from text) so they display correctly.
• Additional fixes: Squashed various other bugs to make the app run smoother and faster overall.
