Codex Remote is now fully released and ready for everyday use. This update is a big deal for anyone who uses Codex on a computer but wants the freedom to manage their work from their phone. It means you can start a task on your Mac or Windows PC and then monitor, review, or approve what Codex is doing directly from your mobile device.
What's new
- Full mobile remote control: You can use the ChatGPT mobile app to start or continue work on your computer, check its progress, and approve actions right from your phone.
- DigitalOcean plugin: You can now use a new plugin to automatically set up a cloud computer (a "Droplet" on DigitalOcean), configure the secure connection (SSH), and link it to Codex as a remote workspace.
Improvements
- More secure device pairing: Connecting your phone to your computer now uses a secure, one-to-one QR code system. This ensures only your specific phone can control your specific computer.
Fixes
- Older connections cleared: To make sure the new secure system works properly, any phone-to-computer connections that haven't been used since before June 8, 2026, were dropped. You will just need to pair them again with the new QR code.
Breaking changes
- You must update both the ChatGPT mobile app and the Codex App on your computer to the newest versions before you can connect them.
