Codex App June 11, 2026 Changelog

This update is all about speed and control. It matters most to developers and power users who use Codex to build software, automate tasks, or browse the web, giving them deeper tools to fix issues and a smoother, faster experience.

What's new

• Credit banking and referrals: Plus and Pro users can now earn extra "rate-limit resets" (which let you bypass usage caps when you run out of your normal allowance). You get one free reset to start, and you can invite friends to earn more. Business members can invite coworkers to share workspace credits.
• Developer mode for browsers: When using Chrome or the app's built-in browser, you can turn on Developer mode. This gives Codex special access to inspect network traffic, console logs, and errors, making it much easier to debug websites.
• The /init command: You can now type /init in the chat composer to automatically generate project instructions, matching the workflow used in the Codex CLI (command line tool).
• Custom macOS Dock icons: Mac users can now switch between light and dark versions of the Codex icon in their Dock.
• Computer Use for Enterprise: Enterprise users (outside the EU, UK, and Switzerland due to local privacy laws) can now use the "Computer Use" feature, which lets Codex control a computer interface.
• Windows access controls: Windows users can now set specific, per-app permissions for the Computer Use feature.
• Unread chats section: The command menu now has an "Unread chats" area that automatically highlights your most recently updated conversation.

Improvements

• Faster browsing: Web browsing in the app is now up to twice as fast. The app takes quicker "snapshots" of web pages and reduces the back-and-forth communication with the browser.
• Clearer summaries: The summaries for commands, browsing, and code activity are easier to read. Finished chats now do a better job of showing you the files and automations they created.
• Better plugin management: It's easier to manage add-ons (plugins). The app refreshes them more reliably after you install or remove them, and you can upload a new version of a shared plugin without messing up who has access to it.
• Helpful error messages: When you hit a usage limit, the error message now tells you exactly what plan you are on and when your limits will reset.
• New keyboard shortcuts: You can now press Cmd+Enter (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows) to quickly submit approval feedback.

Fixes

• Browser fixes: Fixed an issue where downloads handled by the browser would fail, and improved how Developer mode recovers from glitches.
• Automation and project fixes: Fixed scheduled automations so they actually follow your chosen approval settings. Also fixed a bug where you couldn't manually reorder projects.
• Interface fixes: Fixed glitchy browser tab dragging, weird window sizing for MCP (Model Context Protocol) apps, and made ChatGPT thread mentions clickable again. Also fixed overlay positioning if you use a zoom level other than 100%.
• Background and remote fixes: Squashed bugs affecting background agent tabs, generating pull request messages, updating pull request statuses in the sidebar, mobile QR pairing, remote multi-factor authentication (MFA), and remote SSH connections.
