The big picture of this release is all about helping you go from an idea to a live website without ever leaving the app. This matters to anyone who wants to build and share web apps, games, or digital dashboards, especially teams using Codex for work or school projects.
What's new
- The Sites tool: You can now create, save, and launch (or "deploy") websites, web apps, and games. OpenAI hosts them, meaning OpenAI's servers put your project on the internet for others to see.
- Project management home base: A new "Sites" button in the app's sidebar lets you jump back into your saved projects.
- Secure settings storage: You can now safely store "environment variables and secrets." These are basically hidden passwords or secure keys your app needs to work, kept safe so people visiting your site can't see them.
- Workplace access: If you use a ChatGPT Business workspace, Sites is already turned on for you. If you are on an Enterprise plan, your admin has to use role-based access control (basically, a system that decides who gets permission to use what) to turn it on for your team.
Improvements
- You can now "inspect" your hosted projects. This means you can check under the hood to see how your live website is running and debug issues.
