This update is all about giving you more freedom and fewer headaches when using Google Vertex AI to power Cline. It matters most to developers who want to use the newest AI models as soon as they drop, without waiting for Cline's built-in menus to catch up. It also cleans up how you tell Cline to run on autopilot.
What's new
- Type in any Vertex model ID: If you want to use a specific AI model on Google Vertex that isn't listed in Cline's menu yet, you can now just type its name (the "model ID") in by hand.
- Support for Fable 5: You can now use the new "Fable 5" model on Vertex.
Improvements
- Bigger model menu: Previously, Cline only showed a tiny, pre-set list of models for each Google Vertex location (region). Now, it shows the full catalog of available models. This means you don't have to wait for Cline to update its list every time a new AI launches. If you pick a model that isn't actually available in your chosen area, Cline will let you know when it tries to connect and tell you how to fix it.
- Honest cost reporting for Fable 5: Google Vertex charges different prices depending on where its servers are. Before, Cline just guessed the price based on the creator's standard rates, which made it look cheaper than it actually was. Now, Cline will just say the cost is "unknown" so you aren't surprised by a higher bill.
- Simplified autopilot mode: Cline used to have a switch called "Yolo Mode" that was supposed to let the AI do everything without asking for your permission. However, it didn't actually work! Now, Cline uses the "auto-approve menu" as the only way to control what the AI can do on its own. If you had Yolo Mode turned on before, Cline automatically moves your settings over so your AI keeps running smoothly without interruption.
Fixes
- Fixed the summary length limit: When Cline's memory gets too full, it writes a summary to remember the big picture (this is called "compaction"). There was a bug where it ignored your limit on how long its answers could be during this step. It now respects your rules.
- Removed an old pop-up: Got rid of a useless, outdated tip about "Double-Check Completion" that was just taking up space.
