This update is mostly about keeping Cline up-to-date with the newest AI models and smoothing out a few annoying glitches. It matters most to people who use ChatGPT subscriptions with Cline and anyone who has been frustrated by confusing token counts or file-reading errors.

What's new

• GPT-5.6 support: You can now use the new GPT-5.6 models that come with a ChatGPT subscription. (Models are the specific "brains" or versions of the AI that you can choose to chat with).

Improvements

• Friendlier error messages: When the AI gets stuck and makes too many mistakes in a row, it stops and warns you. That warning used to be long and a bit harsh, but now it’s shorter and gentler.

Fixes

• Over-reported token counts: Fixed an issue where the system was accidentally double-counting your "tokens" (tokens are basically chunks of words that AI uses to measure how much text it's processing). Because of this bug, it looked like you were using way more tokens than you really were, which could be misleading.
• Reading special text files: Fixed a bug that stopped Cline from loading "skills" (custom instructions or abilities) from text files saved with a BOM. A BOM (Byte Order Mark) is just a tiny, invisible piece of code at the very beginning of a text file that tells computers how to read it.
