This release is all about fixing frustrating bugs and making the app more stable, especially if you use local AI models or run Cline on Windows and Linux. It matters most to developers who rely on Cline to code, because it ensures that undoing mistakes actually works and that the tool gives helpful, readable errors instead of crashing.

What's new

  • Smarter workspace rewind: When you restore a "checkpoint" (a saved snapshot of your work), it now acts like a true time machine. It brings back files to exactly how they were at that moment, deletes any new files created after the checkpoint, but smartly leaves ignored files alone (like bulky node_modules folders or private .env settings files).
  • Easier promo pop-ups: The ClinePass subscription pop-up can now be dismissed by pressing any key, and it won't annoyingly pop up again every time you restart the app if you just force-quit it.

Improvements

  • More time for local AI: If you use Ollama to run AI models locally on your computer, the startup timeout jumped from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. This means large models that take a while to load won't crash the app while warming up.
  • Better model names: When picking an AI model from the list, free and recommended models now show their actual, readable names instead of confusing ID codes.
  • Smarter fallbacks: If you upgraded from an older version and your saved AI model no longer exists, the app will quietly switch to the default model instead of sending broken requests.
  • Windows command upgrades: On Windows, typing commands with special characters or different languages no longer breaks them, and super long commands won't get randomly cut off.
  • Cleaner restored text: After you rewind your work to a previous checkpoint, the text box now shows your previous prompt as normal, readable text instead of messy background code.

Fixes

  • Fixed the /undo command: The undo button was completely broken after the AI used a tool. It got confused counting steps and would crash with a "Could not find user message" error.
  • Fixed missing checkpoints: Checkpoints weren't being saved at all in the CLI due to a recent software update bug, meaning you had no safety net to go back to.
  • Fixed link crashes: Opening a web link used to crash the app on computers that don't have a default web browser opener installed (like basic Linux servers). This is fixed, along with better path handling for Windows/ Linux hybrid systems.
  • Fixed root folder crashes: If you started a session in the very base folder of your computer (the root directory), every command would fail. This is now fixed.
  • Fixed empty AI responses: If Ollama sent back an empty response by mistake, the app used to fail the whole task. It now retries automatically.
  • Fixed self-update crashes: On Unix systems, updating the app used to cause it to crash trying to use deleted files. It now restarts correctly.
  • Fixed unreadable errors: When an outside AI provider had an error, the app used to show a messy dump of code or just say [object Object]. It now shows the actual, human-readable error message.
  • Fixed missing video support: The model menu accidentally stopped showing which AIs could accept video inputs; this is now fixed.
