Claude Desktop July 7, 2026 Changelog

This update is all about breaking Claude out of the computer sitting on your desk. It matters most to people who use Claude for big projects and need their work to sync seamlessly across their phone, laptop, and the internet, or who use Microsoft 365 for school or work.

What's new

• Cowork on web and mobile: Claude Cowork (a feature that runs your tasks remotely) is now available on phones and web browsers, not just the desktop app. Because your sessions are saved to your account in the cloud, you can start a project on your laptop and check on it from your phone.
• Background tasks: Since Cowork runs remotely, your tasks keep running even when you close your laptop or turn off your device. You can even schedule tasks to run later without leaving a device turned on.
• A unified home screen: Your regular chats and your Cowork projects now share the same home screen. This means your files, projects, and artifacts (things Claude creates for you, like documents or code) are all in one single place.
• Microsoft 365 write tools: Claude can now do more than just read your Microsoft 365 files. It can draft and send emails, manage your calendar, update mailbox settings, and create or edit files in OneDrive and SharePoint. (Note: Microsoft Teams is still read-only).

Improvements

• Better Microsoft 365 connection: The Microsoft 365 connector (the bridge that lets Claude access your Microsoft account) is much more useful now. It has been upgraded from just searching and reading your files to actually letting Claude organize and update them for you.

Breaking changes

• Microsoft 365 admin approval required: Because Claude can now make changes to Microsoft 365 accounts, it needs new permissions. A Microsoft Entra administrator (the person in charge of managing your organization's Microsoft accounts) has to approve these new permissions, and an organization admin has to turn the write tools on before anyone can use them.
