Bolt.new March 28, 2026 Changelog

Bolt.new just made it a lot easier to build apps that look exactly the way you want them to. This update matters to anyone who cares about design—especially teams who want their apps to match their company's style—because Bolt can now read your design rules and use them automatically. It also includes a heads-up that the older AI assistant is going away, meaning you'll need to switch your past projects to the newer version.

What's new

• Custom design systems for paid teams: A "design system" is a collection of a company's colors, fonts, and reusable buttons. Paid teams can now upload their own system to Bolt. Bolt reads the files and creates a browsable "Storybook" (a visual menu of parts) to use as a cheat sheet when building your app's interface.
• Pre-loaded design systems for everyone: You don't need a paid account to try this out. Anyone can now start a project using ready-made design styles from big brands like Porsche or Cloudscape right from the Bolt homepage.

Improvements

• Smarter AI building: By giving Bolt a design system to look at, the AI doesn't have to guess what your app should look like. It can now automatically reference your uploaded colors and components to build a much more accurate user interface.

Breaking changes

• v1 Agent retirement: The older AI assistant (called the v1 Agent) is being permanently retired. Starting April 13, 2026, you can't use it for new projects. By August 3, 2026, any old projects or websites built with it will stop working. You will need to switch those existing projects over to the newer "Claude Agent" before that deadline, or you will lose access to them.
