Amp's "painter" tool—which lets you edit or redesign images and screenshots—just got a big upgrade. This update matters most to developers and designers who need to tweak user interfaces, because the AI can now update screenshots while perfectly respecting the original look, text, and style.

What's new

  • New AI engine: The painter tool is now powered by "GPT Image 2" instead of "Gemini 3 Pro Image." This new engine is simply better at understanding and editing images.

Improvements

  • Better text and style preservation: When you upload a screenshot of an app or website, the AI used to sometimes mess up the words or fonts while redrawing the image. Now, it keeps the existing text, typography (font style), and visual design completely intact while making your requested changes.
  • Cheaper to use: The new engine is a huge money-saver. It costs only about a quarter of what the old one did, meaning you get better results for 75% less cost.

Fixes

  • Mangled text on screenshots: The previous AI engine would often scramble or rewrite existing text when you asked it to update a screenshot's design. The new GPT Image 2 engine fixes this by recognizing exactly what the text says and leaving it alone when you change the layout.

Breaking changes

No breaking changes in this release.
